Man, that’s a lot of knit scarves

January 17, 2012

I think that maybe, just maybe, my scarf/cowl knit craze is starting to wind down. In case you missed any of them, check out recently knit scarves such as the chunky cowl, the simple scrap scarf, and the shimmery cowl. There’s patterns of all of these on my diy page, too! (Is that enough links for you?)

Now that you’re all caught up on scarves of knits’ past, here is the latest addition:

knit blue scarf

That’s right, look at that title pic! I remembered that I have tons of white board from my days as a student, and I should use it to my advantage rather than  have it collect dust in the closet. (plus I fear those sunny fence pictures are gone for the season)

These are actually second generation scarves. I made two others back before Christmas. I even commissioned some fabulous models to pose in them:

That’s all for today, thanks for stopping by!

Music Monday: Awolnation

January 16, 2012

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Today’s music choice is Awolnation…slightly different than Ingrid from last week. Just so you know, I have a  w  i  d  e  range when it comes to taste in music, so please don’t expect consistency in these music posts.

I first heard Awolnation through a youtube video of an extreme base jumper in a wingsuit flying down the Swiss Alps (or some huge mountain range). Upon further investigation, turns out that Awolnation is signed with Red Bull Records (yeah, they have a record company, who knew?) which then makes sense why they would be the background music of a very extreme sport. But anyway, I proceeded to make an Awolnation station on Pandora and found this lovely song…it even has karaoke-style lyrics in the video so you can sing along!

Knit Awesomeness!

January 13, 2012

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Whew! Finally finishing up my first full five day week in who knows how long. Glad its almost over. Let’s celebrate with some knit awesomeness!

What is this “knit awesomeness” you ask? Well, since my love of yarn has been made incredibly public as of late (I was a closet yarnaholic prior to this blog) people have been sending me super cool/funny/interesting things made out of yarn. I’ve been compiling them on a board on pinterest appropriately titled “knit awesomeness,” but I think it would be fun to post them on here, too, because then I can give a commentary with it.

I think there’s going to be multiple knit awesomeness posts because there is a ton of stuff out there, so today will be limited to things that are not wearable. (all photos link to the image source)

Columbus is Cool

Columbus is Cool | Brothers Drake Mead

January 11, 2012

Columbus has a lot going for it, lots of cool shops and things to do that are unique to the city. Each month I’m going to do/experience something new (to me) that is unique to Columbus each month and share it with the world here!

from characterblog.com (photo links to source)

Mead, in its most basic form is wine made from honey and water. Add fruits, spices, and flowers and you get a very tasty, unique drink. Make it from all locally-grown and produced ingredients from Columbus, OH and you have mead from Brothers Drake, Columbus’ first and only meadery. They use only organic, local ingredients to craft their mead; even the bees making the honey are from Columbus (well, Central-Ohio at least)!

I had the pleasure of working with Evelyn and Woody (two of the owners) this past summer helping them with a community garden they started up earlier in the year. I saw first-hand how important building and strengthening the community is to them through this project and there’s no doubt they put that same effort into their mead.

They have awesome flavors, too, like Bergamot Blue adding blueberries and Bergamot flowers into the mix. VO, “Vanilla-Orange”, Apple Pie, and Honey Oak are just a few of the other meads you can try.

Since staying local is important, this awesome stuff is only available here in Columbus, so if you aren’t from around here, you’re going to have to come here to try it!

OK, so I technically didn’t just experience this for the first time, but, I had some of my favorite mead, Bergamot Blue, with a homemade pizza here and thought it was fitting to have it be a kick off to these posts.
