yarn ball luminaries :: stuff steph does

Remember these yarn ornaments (and this blooper) from last week? Well I made several of those yarn balls out of plain white yarn and turned them into some big luminaries for our Christmas tree this year. I love how they turn into giant light balls when the tree is lit up!

And I told you I would be giving you some felt ball ideas, well one is now up on Petit Elefant. Go over there and find out a simple but fun way to wrap your presents this year!

how to make felt balls :: stuff steph does

These little balls of felted wool seem to be all the rage lately. But really, who doesn’t love these soft, bouncy, colorful woolen spheres?

I’ve been on a bit of a felted ball frenzy lately spinning the fibers until my palms are numb. Well not really numb, but to the point where my palms were itchy–like when you exercise in the cold and your muscles get that itchy feeling. Know what I’m saying? Yep, that happens when you make felt balls in excess, too. Continue Reading…

weekend recap

Happy Monday and Happy December! I had a long weekend this past week and spent it decorating for the holidays, crafting up a few new goodies (to be posted in the near future), and baking some tasty cookies. I made these soft molasses cookies for the second time this month. Everyone who has had them has given rave reviews. I highly recommend trying them out!

On Sunday evening B, Lucy and I walked up and down the streets of our neighborhood for the annual Village Lights. There were carolers, a brass band, an outdoor market, and tons of white luminaries on the sidewalks. Except for the fact that it was 60 degrees and my hair was frizzing like it was July, it definitely got you into the Christmas spirit!

Speaking of Christmas spirit, time for some more holiday tunes!

{stuff steph loves} DIY Ornament Round up

November 30, 2012

On the agenda for the weekend is putting up our Christmas decorations. Included in said decorations is a Christmas tree filled with ornaments, which may be why I have ornaments on the brain (speaking of which, did you see my ornament tutorial over on Petit Elefant, yet?).  If you’re in the market for some new ornaments, or just feel like crafting this weekend, might I suggest these lovelies:

Saks Shopping Bags Pentagram

Maybe I have shopping on the brain because, well, the entire country has been consumed with Black Fridays, Cyber Mondays, and everything in between. (I’m not downplaying Small business Saturday–that one is my fave, it just happens to be the one “in between”)  But showing Pentagram’s Fall Campaign for Saks Fifth Avenue’s shopping bags is more than appropriate for this consumer-filled week.

In case you’re having trouble deciding what to buy, these bags will lead you in the right direction…all of which lead to purchasing items from Saks. Imagine that? Regardless, I’m totally in love with the graphic style and clever flow charts.
