monday musings

another monday

March 12, 2012

Spring Forward! Spring is here this week. It has been absolutely beautiful and is supposed to continue all week. I generally don’t like the spring forward shift because of the obvious reason of losing an entire hour of the weekend plus having to wake up at what feels like an hour earlier, but I’m going to try and take advantage of the combination of extra daylight in the evening along with the nice weather this week and spend some time outside.

The song has nothing to do with anything I just said. I just like it. Another Fun. song. They sure are fun!

What sorts of things are you looking forward to this spring?

Fab Finds

March 7, 2012

I was introduced to a new website a couple days ago. It is fabulous, and appropriately titled, fab.com.

Heard of it? No? Ohhh man, you’re in for a treat!

For those of you familiar with shopping sites like Rue La La or Gilt Groupe, its basically the same thing where different companies have sales on it for just a couple days, except on fab.com the products are all super cool, well designed products (as opposed to clothes). They sell everything from jewelry to furniture to books to lighting to art to hair styling tools and everything is just, well, fab. A lot of the sales are from etsy shops, which I love. There’s so much energy behind handcrafted work and entrepreneurial businesses right now, and I’m totally all for it. They also sell vintage items and have a pinterest-type board for inspiration. Not that we need another pinterest….but in case you needed another pinning outlet…

Before you scurry off and look at it, let me show you some fun things I’ve seen over there the past couple days and am restraining myself from buying.

(this is her etsy shop, this necklace isn’t there, you have to go fab.com for it!)

light bulb chandelier

via Urban Chandy

This could be a fun project to try. Not much for wiring? Stop by Cassidy Brush’s etsy shop!

cityfabric Chicago tote

via CityFabric

CityFabric has totes, tees and prints of different U.S. cities. I’m putting this up here even though they don’t have Columbus…They need to get on that!

A colander turned light, um, cool!

Get the gist? Fab stuff at fab.com, you should check ’em out!

How To: Make Plarn

March 3, 2012

how to make plarn

Have a bunch of plastic bags stashed away in one big plastic bag waiting for the day you actually remember to take them with you to the grocery to recycle? (I always forget).

Stop trying to remember and make something out of them! Here’s a tutorial for making Plarn, err, plastic yarn, that is.

Anthro Love

anthropologie layout

via anthropologie

Anthropologie just came out with their March catalog, and I loved the way they displayed their furniture. At first I thought it was miniture versious of everything, but then the cat in the pictures gave me a sense of scale.

I just have a few of the images here, check out their website to see all the fun displays!
