living room inspiration: blue sofas

April 9, 2013

Oh my gosh. I probably started 3 different posts tonight and continually kept getting stuck. Hopefully when this horrendous case of writer’s block goes away and I’ll go back to them, but the silver lining to this story is that my procrastination efforts led me to this unexpected round up.

So in the meantime, blue couches! I would have never even thought about buying a blue couch a few months ago. The initial thought seems so unpractical and limiting to your decor options– like you would be locked in to one look forever (or however long you kept the couch). But after seeing the different way these pieces are styled, the blue almost seems to act like a neutral. It can be paired with so many different colors!

Here’s what I found (from the top left):

1. Tailor Sofa from Crate and Barrel
2. Jonathan Adler chair styled by Emily Henderson (this whole home makeover she did is great, so you should definitely click on that link)
3. I love the clean lines of Elsie’s Sofa on A Beautiful Mess
4. Bri’s (from Design Love Fest) living room is so great, she got two photos. This was also styled by Emily Henderson. I’m starting to adore that woman, and to think I totally rooted against her on Design Star! Now 4 years later, I’m glad she won that season.

So what’s the verdict on blue couches? Like them? Hate them? Would you put a blue couch in your living room?

{friday five} paper flowers

paper-flowers-diy-projects

Geez, it’s Friday already. I swear it should only be Wednesday. Oh, and by the way, its APRIL. When did this happen?! I’ve been busy with work and getting the second annual Columbus Design Weeks website set up, and in the meantime weeks flew by and months changed. shoot. Don’t worry, I’ll be sharing it on here soon, we’re still getting a few kinks worked out and then we’ll be full-blown ready to share the awesomeness with everyone!

In the meantime, it’s freaking April! Spring should be is officially here and I’ve had flowers and other pretty things on the brain. Thing is, my daffs are just starting to get buds, so I have a little bit of time before fresh-cut full blooms are right outside my door. (Who am I kidding, I think I have four daffodils in that little plot of sand-dirt outside; I’m going to have to go to the florist for any sort of real bouquet.) So why not  indulge in some paper flowers? They’ll never wilt, you don’t have to water them, and you can make them in any weather! Plus they are gorgeous! Here are a few of my faves:

| 1 – flowers for a birthday party via Elisabeth Heier  | 2 – crepe paper flower garland via honestlyYUM  |  3- Pink paper peonies from Jessica Burns  | 4 – Paper flowers from West Elm  |  5 – Origami Cherry Blossoms from Paper Mojo |

So great, right?

What’s everyone up to this weekend? I have yet to figure it out since I’m just now realizing it’s already here! Whatever you are up to, enjoy it and happy, happy Friday.

pierre lota design

Have you seen this yet? I just came it across it yesterday and was instantly drawn to it. Pierre Lota is a French designer who has embarked on a project of creating new designs out of every day objects in a minute, well the videos are all under one minute, I’m sure it takes longer to actually make the objects. But still, all are DIY-able and are very cool.  Continue Reading…

upcycled lightbulb necklace

I was asked to participate in a DIY project on Buzz Feed this past week and the assignment was to make something out of old light bulbs. After a few weeks of brainstorming and basically asking everyone I talked to what they would make out of old an old light bulb, this easy upcycled light bulb necklace was my final product. Keep reading for the full tutorial!
