monday musings

here’s to monday

April 22, 2013

clear skies ahead

Here’s to a new week and a fresh start. The last seven days was a week full of challenges at the small scale for me personally, and the national scale where I can’t even fathom the terror and grief the people in Massachusetts and Texas have gone through over the last few days.

I was traveling on Friday for work. Even though I’ve made same the trip before, this time felt different. There was this new sense of community between everyone waiting for their flights: people huddled close together around the TV watching the latest updates on CNN, strangers talking to each other about the latest facts or about someone they know that lives there or sharing a personal connection they have to the area. It seemed that the week of events created a common bond between everyone no matter where you were from or where you were headed.

I’m looking forward to this week, getting back on track, and moving on to new adventures and projects.

Happy Monday to you and enjoy the new week!

diy geometric thumb tacks | stuff steph does

Hello there! Talk about a week not going how I planned it! I woke up on Monday keeled-over-can’t-move-can’t-eat sick and now I’ve just been playing catch up for the rest of the week.  But alas, blogging and crafting must go on.

I finally hopped on the geometric bandwagon last weekend and have these fun and easy geo thumbtacks to share with you today.

{friday five} diy concrete ideas

concrete diy ideas

Most of my projects tend toward the stitched and sewn category, but I have to say that I’ve been itching to venture out into new materials. Specifically concrete. Almost every DIY project I found using the material just looks awesome. My excuse for holding out on experimenting with it so far has been the cold weather because any sort of concrete-based project probably wouldn’t go over so well in the house.  But now the weather is warmer and I really have no excuse! It’s time to get making with some concrete!

Here’s some great projects I found for inspiration:

1. A sleek and simple concrete bowl Rebecca from A Daily Something would look awesome indoors or out.
2. I’m tempted to make these coat hooks by Helena from Mormorsglamour. So good!
3. Sibylle from Funkytime made a concrete candle holder. Totally unexpected but a really fun idea.
4. Ugh, these stools are amazing. B actually found this one because he thought it was so great. Ben from Handmade Modern is killing it these days with tons of great concrete and other modern projects.
5. These concrete planters by Megan of Radmegan are, well, pretty rad, and they are made from simple molds like juice containers.

So are you going to make something out of concrete this weekend?? I’m actually out of town, so unfortunately I’m going to have to put off this project for a little while longer. Whatever you are up to this weekend, enjoy it and happy, happy Friday.
