Time for another long overdue Wedding Wednesday post. From here on out, I deem all Wedding Wednesday posts to be long overdue. Get over it.

I wavered about what I wanted to talk about today, but I thought before going into all the details of the whole reception, I should talk about the overall vibe I was going for because I actually had a hard time really figuring that out. So when Wedding Paper Divas asked me if I wanted to help share their new Wedding Color Guide, I thought that would be a great way to talk about my struggle with colors and nailing down an idea and hopefully help some current bride-to-be’s who may be going through the same thing. There were so many different ideas and details I’d find on Pinterest or wedding blogs that I wanted to incorporate but too many ideas can get overwhelming and you have to finally have to stop searching and just focus in on what is most important to you.

The question I got the most during wedding planning: (and I’ll admit I’m guilty of asking this to bride-to-be’s as well) “What are your colors?” When it comes to wedding planning its all about the colors and I never had a straight answer. Even after the wedding. My answer would always be a long drawn out explanation along the lines of “Well, the girls are wearing navy blue dresses and the guys are wearing grey suits…there’s white vases, a lot of plants…”

“So it’s navy, grey, and white? and green?”

“Yeah, I guess…”

For whatever reason, I never wanted to full-out commit to a color scheme. I just wanted the wedding to be “pretty and fun.” A few months into planning I realized I needed to buckle down and fully define what “pretty and fun” meant. I made a little wedding mood board to help get things started and even took a stab at a color scheme:

Looking back at it, I actually nailed quite a bit of that. The invitations have a similar modern vibe, the dresses, though they ended up being all navy, are of a similar style, the guys in grey suits, and the flowers are pretty spot on.

Oddly enough, those colors I chose on the mood board were probably the furthest off from what actually happened. I suppose now, nearly 7 months later, I can finally nail down a color scheme:

So next time someone asks me, I finally have my answer.

If you’re going through the same struggle, I highly recommend checking out Wedding Paper Divas’ Wedding Color guide. They have tons of ideas for every color sorted by season. Then on top of that, tons of different stationary options depending on whatever “vibe” you’re going for.

Past and Future Brides: Am I completely weird on this? Or is this a common struggle? What helped you? Let me know!

So, Steph, what’s with the Jenga? Everyone sign their name on one? Interesting idea: “takes a community to make a couple” kinda thing?
