Gosh ampersands are so “in” right now. They’re used as a graphic on t-shirts, a hip new shape for a lamp, a design studio (and another), collegiate publications, and in tons of logos and branding designs.

Yep, I get it. The ampersand is freaking awesome. Its appearance can vary so much from looking like a mix of a cursive -S and a treble clef to a fancy capital -E and lots of shapes in between. I hadn’t paid much attention to the variety of ampersands, especially the ones I have on my own computer, so I decided to make a catalog of them ranging from the standard to the exquisite. I think it will be a good reference to know which ampersands I already have on hand and maybe you’ll find it helpful, too.

I know there are other great ampersands out there that I don’t have on my computer (hello Kings Caslon and Baskerville). What else am I missing? Do you have a favorite ampersand font?

oh, and P.S. This is a great infographic breaking down all the elements of the ampersand and basically telling you all you ever wanted to know about the character.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

    Yes! I love Rodney Smith’s ampersand: http://www.rodneysmith.com
But I don’t know the font name. Do you?
