Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. B and I were both fortunate to be able to have a nice long break off from work. While the break has been amazing, I am ready to get back to work and back to a normal routine.
I’m also excited to start the new year with some new goals for the blog.
1. Become a more active blogger
I read a lot of blogs, twitter feeds, facebook and all that stuff, but I am guilty of just being a silent reader and not engaging in other people’s content as much as I should. I’m guilty of this in real life as well, many times just sitting back and observing situations rather than actively participating in them. This year I will make it a priority to set aside time for engaging in other blogs and social media. If I want people to spend their time reading my blog, I should spend some of mine reading theirs.
2. Blog less “fluff”
Sometimes I just blog to blog because I feel like it’s been too long or there is some sort of obligation to have so many posts up a week. I would love to be able to post 5 times a week consistently, but it just hasn’t been possible between work and other obligations. I admire those who can keep up such a rigorous schedule and also work other jobs. This year I want to focus on creating the best content possible and if that means I don’t have a post up for 3 days, that’s OK. Rather than scrambling to come up with a post one night, spend that time working toward a better post that’s scheduled in 3 days. I still want to share cool things I find, but it should be carefully curated and presented in the highest quality possible.
3. Live first, Blog second
This blog is supposed to be fun. I purposely leave out politics, religion, and any other controversial topics from here because that’s not what this blog is about, (not that I don’t have opinions and beliefs!) But still, even with solely “fun” content, it can be stressful trying to keep up with the virtual world and still really live in the real world. It’s all about finding a balance to do everything we want to do. Isn’t that what everyone is looking for?
I know I’ve said it before, but I’m looking forward to seeing what 2013 brings both on the blog and in real life.
Here’s a to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013! Thanks for reading!
